February 2007

I know you girls don’t stay up that late, but at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 the USA men’s team will be playing in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Fox Soccer Channel.  FYI – CONCACAF is the region of the World that the USA plays in to qualify for the World Cup.  They play Honduras which really should be much of a competitor, but when it comes to tournament play, you never know.

Check this out. This will be our new juggling requirements for the Spring.

But you won’t have to do it in the street.

I thought this would be a good time to talk about our recent training sessions.

I hope you are enjoying the training sessions that Digger has been running because I think he has used some very good drills to emphasize some of the things that we need to work on. However, one of the observations I would like to make is that I don’t think many of you are applying yourself to the best of your ability. At this point, I think you are simply going through the motions instead of listening to the advice that he is giving you and then taking that advice and making yourself into a better player.

After 3+ years, I think I know pretty well what each player on Bravo is capable of. I also know when I’m not getting your best. And right now, I think most of you are cruising at a very comfortable level at our Monday night training sessions.

I need to warn you… that is not going to get it done. That’s exactly why last Saturday happened.

If you thought that Glads was NOT a good team because they got beat by Bangu 4-0 and they couldn’t play some very good soccer, you got your wake call on Saturday. If you think you can come to game 2 minutes before game time and not getting any warmup before the game, you can’t. No matter who you are playing.

The Monday night training sessions are going to change beginning next Monday. You should arrive at the field ready for practice… ball inflated and out of your bag, shinguards on, shoes on, and with an attitude that you are there to show your teammates just how good you are! At practice, ever person on your team is your competition, not your teammate. If we don’t challenge each other at every turn, then we are NOT going to get better and we are not going to be ready to play at the “Bravo” level the next time we play a good team.

Anyone feel the same way I do?

Good game this morning Bravo. I dont think we were with it this morning including myself. Like John said they came ready to play and they really wanted that game and we gave it to them. I think the score couldve been 5-0 us. They were beating us to every ball and out hustling us. I think they were also being more aggressive. This is just my prespective of the game. Any one else think of something we didnt do or something we need to work on?
