No doubt about it, Bangu is a very good team. Maybe it was because they were playing their 3rd game and we were only playing our 2nd game – so sure, we had more pop in our game.
I’m not sure if you did, but I recognized some of their players; in fact, I recognized their style. As I recall, they played a lot like Ratpack. Very strong on the ball. Always trying to spring their outside backs and play a long ball out to the corners.
After the first 10 minutes, I thought they looked a little stronger than us. Maybe they wanted to show their determination; after all, their coach told me before the game they were out for a little revenge. I kind of figured that. They’d beaten Ratpack and CSA Fusion, but they still hadn’t beaten Bravo.
After about 10 minutes I thought we started to play our game… we started to match their hard tackling with some of our own, and most importantly, we started to play OUR game. We have a unique style, but we have most is “heart”. The heart to not give up and not give in.
Sure, we have 16 very good soccer players, but what makes Bravo stand out more than any other team is how well we work together when we’re on the field playing a really good team, like Bangu. As a team, and I mean every one of you, earned some respect today. There were more than a few people – perhaps even some of your own parents – who didn’t think you could hold your own against Bangu, but as I told you before the game, you do not have to be afraid of anyone you meet on a soccer field. I have great confidence in you ALL and I was NOT surprised by the outcome at all today. I was not surprised that everyone contributed to this win and I feel really good that no matter which eleven I have on the field, you are going to work together to make sure Bravo is successful.
What I am most proud of is how you support each other on the field. If one Bravo player slips up, there’s another Bravo player right there to make up for her slip up. We have no stars! Personally, I don’t like stars, I like players who want to EARN their own way; and we have more than our share of players with that mind set.
I want to congratulate you on two very good games this weekend. I can assure you – it will be very difficult to surprise anybody from now on. Anyone who plays Bravo will know that they are playing one of the best teams at their age-group. In a word – nicely done! (ok, two words)
