August 2006

Hey ya’ll! John was talking about eating healthy at the party and on our own during the tournament. Here’s a little more along with that.
Last year at my uncles and aunts house all they really had to eat was hamburgers, chicken breasts and hotdogs. This time I was thinking maybe i could pursuade them to make pasta and maybe buy some fruits and veggies. If ya’ll got something in mind please share!! ORDER UP!
Also we were talking about conserving energy for the games. At the get together maybe we could watch some motivational or pump-up movies like Miracle or Remember The Titans as a team. If you’ve got some better ideas feel free to jot some down!! Please remember NO RUNNING AROUND!! Even feel free to tell ghost stories by the stairs… (just remember I might be waiting to scare you again)
If ya’ll have some ideas or questions please feel free to share with us!!

See you on Thursday!
Kim

This is my post for the day, so bear with me. I think that I will post every other day, cuz since everybody has school now it is harder for everybody to take a super, psychological, functional look at the blog until after school and then there would be the blog from the other day and that day.

So, I think that blogging every other day would give you peeps a chance to get your blog on, get yah blog on!!! Starting in 3….. 2….. 1….. GO!!!!

~JAYLYN~

P.S. I’m still gonna blog tomorrow this is more like a rambunctious, irritating, reminder to you all to comment!

One of the things I like the most about Bravo is that we all have great attitudes (most of the time!) and teamwork and we are very supportive of eachother. As a great team, we have the top talent in Omaha but we need to continue to work on our individual games to be a top talent team in the Region. As we all know, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. It’s up to you if you want to share or not, but I think it will help the team to know what everyone is working on personally to improve, in case we have an idea that may help someone else.

I’ll start: I am working on not having the ball richochet off of my foot on one-touch moves. I am working on this on my own (in practice too!) by kicking a ball off the wall, controlling with a one-touch and back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth….you get the picture!

So, what are your individual things that you feel you need to work on and how are you going to work on improving that skill(s)? (Or, if you have already been working on something, what is it and what are you doing to help improve?)

The information provided for the availability of a field for our scrimmage on Monday was wrong and we will have to postpone our scrimmage. The CSM field is not available.

I’m trying to re-schedule and will let you know when the arrangements are final.

John

Our scrimmage Monday will be at CSM from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. against Toro United. We will wear our green uniform jersey. This is just to help prepare us for the MAG tournament.

Good morning Bravo! Saturday’s have always been one of my favorite days. Not just because it’s the start of the weekend, but because it’s soccer Saturday for a large part of the year.

For example, there are no less than 4 soccer games on TV today. Starting at 9:00 a.m. the EPL (English Premier League) has 3 games in a row on Fox Soccer Channel (FSC). At 3:00 p.m., ESPN2 has an MSL game on. Then at 6:00 p.m. on FSC, there is a USL (United Soccer League) game on.

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t sit down and watch soccer games all day. Even if I could, I wouldn’t, but what’s nice is that soccer is finally starting to get some exposure on the TV. If it wasn’t gaining popularity, then they wouldn’t be having this many games on TV.

Another thing I’ve noticed. The more you watch soccer, the less you can tolerate other TV sports. I honestly tried to watch a football game on TV last night – I think it was the Eagles and Pittsburgh. After 5 minutes I had to change the channel. It’s 99.9% talk and .1% action. Consider a soccer game where it’s 45 minutes almost non-stop action. Of course, if you don’t know what’s going on, you may not enjoy watching a bunch of guys/gals running around chasing a ball. But if you understand that in today’s professional games, it takes the effort of all 11 players to score a goal… so everyone is out there doing their part.

There’s been some discussion by FIFA (the world organizing committee for soccer) about doing some things to increase the scoring. They did this a few years ago by not allowing the keeper to pick up the ball when passed back from one of their players. Some of you may be too young to remember when this was all too common in a soccer game.

They also introduced the idea of a “professional” foul and have really cracked down on that. A professional foul is when you foul a player just to prevent them from scoring a goal. For example, let’s say a player has the ball and beats the last defender and now only has to slide the ball past the keeper when all of a sudden that last defender trips the player from behind. This is a professional foul and should result in an automatic RED card for the player who did the tripping. If he were not the last defender, it would only have been a yellow card or perhaps just a foul.

Personally, I like the rules the way they are and there is more than enough scoring and action to keep me watching. I hope you’ll spend some time watching one of these games today. Focus on the combination plays – the pros know that combination plays are vital to playing offensive soccer.

See you at practice… remember, drop off is at McDonalds on Dodge street at 12:00.

John

I can’t believe it’s Thursday already and we’ve got practice tonight. It looks like the heat has come back too, so don’t forget to hydrate.

We need another great practice like we had on Tuesday.

FYI – Last year we had a great first half against CSA Independiente, but in the 2nd half we had some problems. As I recall we were up 2-0 at one point and ended up giving up 3 goals in the 2nd half and lost it 4-2.

If we play like we did against Attack, we can and should expect a better result. It all starts with practice tonight, so let’s really get focused to work hard tonight.

Tonight’s practice will focus on shooting and finishing…

Hey Everybody,

Great practice tonight!!!! You all did a good job and worked hard.

PS. Sorry I am so behind on the blog i didn’t know it was my turn.
